Open Fiber is a company with shareholding equally divided between Enel SpA and Gruppo Cassa Depositi e Prestiti.
It was established as a wholesale network operator and in recent years has been building an ultra-broadband network infrastructure throughout Italy, in order to set up FTTH (Fibre To The Home) fibre connections in each municipality.
The technology used is GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network), a multi-operator passive network capable of operating in point-to-multipoint and point-to-point mode.
Nexsoft participated in and won a tender for the field management of the construction of the FTTH network infrastructure for the city of Salerno.
Nexsoft’s engineers filled the roles of construction managers, safety managers and designers during the city’s network creation phase.
As soon as our engineers were involved in the field, they had the opportunity to demonstrate their added value, assisting Open Fiber designers to develop design changes so as to achieve a reduction of construction costs by almost 50%, which allowed the coverage area of the city’s fibre network to be further extended for the same budget.
The project will end in mid 2020 with the acceptance testing of about 58,000 connected properties, all in GPON technology.
